Masters Of The Airwaves Q&A
Mi-Soul owes it existence to black music in all its incarnations. Yet for many years you could not hear black music of any kind on UK radio due to the entrenched power of the large broadcasters and their ability to dictate the musical output of the population. Yet several pioneers dedicated their lives to shifting conceptions and practices within the industry to give black music, and all music for that matter, a voice which would be heard. ‘Masters Of The Airwaves’, by Mi-Soul’s very own Dave VJ and Lindsay Wesker, chronicles the journey of underground sounds on their way from pirate broadcasting to commercial radio. Featuring input from pioneers such as Jazzie B, Norman Jay, Trevor Nelson, Gordon Mac and many more, this book offers an in depth look into the musical movement that redefined an entire industry.
On Thursday 27th November, Dave and Lindsay will be holding a FREE Q+A at the Map Studio Café in Kentish Town. You will be able to listen to the thoughts of some of the pioneers mentioned in the book as well as ask the authors any question you like. There will be free Caribbean cuisine so if you are going straight from work you can fill your tummies during the event. You will also be able to purchase a copy of the book at the event.
