Stuart has been at the forefront of London’s cutting edge club scene for the last fifteen years. Through DJing, promoting club nights, programming the highly successful Shoreditch club East Village, fanzines, mix compilations or his record label, his profile has continually risen since the 90s. He is regarded as one of the key figures in the London house music scene and revered by his peers.
To highlight all of Stuart’s achievements over the years would be impossible, however his most recent success story is the creation and programming of one of the UKs best clubs, East Village. His knowledge has seen a club of under 500 capacity attract the worlds favourite DJs and parties. Now 5 years old, the club has seen incredible artists pass through including Carl Craig, Derrick Carter, Chase+Status, Eryka Badhu, Skream, Kerri Chandler, Maseo (De La Soul), Juan Atkins, Goldie, Maya Jane Coles, Gilles Peterson, Dan Ghenacia, Channel One, Benga,Timmy Regisford, DJ Sneak, Norman Jay, Spen +Karizma, Jazzie B, Paul Woolford, Joe Claussel, Greg Wilson, Danny Krivit, Fabio, David Rodigan and Quentin Harris. www.eastvillageclub.co.uk
As a promoter, it all began in the 90’s with a real breakthrough in 98 with his Soulsonic party. With a clear focus on ‘real house music’ in the age of the superclub, this is an ethos that has stayed with him throughout his career. This is highlighted in his involvement in Faith, both their parties and fanzine and over the last 12 years. www.faithfanzine.com . More recently The Date at the stunning Loft studios bringing only DJs of legendary status to the fore. This last year has seen Tony Humphies, Spen and Karizma, Kerri Chandler, Timmy Regisford plus for 2013, the return of Tony Humphries for their 1st birthday and both Danny Krivit and Greg Wilson on the same night in the spring.
As a DJ, Stuart has played on every continent, including in only the last few months trips to Amsterdam, Croatia and Valencia plus a tour of Brazil in feb 2013. Closer to home, he has been behind the decks at most underground house clubs such as Basics, Stealth, Bugged Out, Chibuku and virtually any town in England which has a decent club. It has always been his residencies at the events and clubs he is involved with that have really caught the imagination, be that Soulsonic at the beginning or Faith, The Date and East Village currently. He has been rewarded with opportunities to release a number of compilation and mix CDs all of which have received critical acclaim. These are Soulsonic – The Mix CD, the first Social Classics Compilation entitled ‘Stuart Patterson Presents Deviant’, the first of the ‘DJs Take Control’ series and ‘Sleazy Beats and Dirty Vibes’ released June 04′ as part of the ‘My Salsoul’ series which saw legendary New York Disco label Salsoul’s back catalogue, re-packaged, re-edited and rejuvenated. The other DJs who have compiled My Salsoul are Grandmaster Flash, Danny Krivit and Joe Claussell so needless to say Stuart was blown away to be invited to add his own interpretation alongside these legends.
With his tireless work and love for music, Stuart has done things the ‘right way’ and there is no doubt that he will continue to be at the forefront of London’s cutting edge club scene for a long time to come while continuing to travel the world with sets upcoming in Dubai, Turkey, Croatia and Ibiza in the next few months.
