The straight-talking, no-nonsense, unflappable music journalist, DJ, producer and presenter with a finger firmly on the pulse of what works, and what isn’t worth the vinyl, plastic or digital sphere it’s printed on: it’s Tony Tomlin.
The road to the turntable has spun in swings and roundabouts for this man of dulcet tones. He spent Five years on Choice FM spinning inspirational music tracks on 107.1 on Sunday nights, and as Co Presenter with Dave P for 5 years on Sunday mornings. His dulcet tones were also heard on BBC 1xtra’s Inspirational Sunday morning programme alongside DJ Fitz delivering the entertainment report.
Tony has also wooed music lovers with his inspirational soulful sounds on CFM Radio and Vogue FM Community Stations. None too shy to share his sentiments on the up and coming as well as those who weren’t, Tony spent seven years as a music columnist penning his popular weekly G-Flava Music column for Britain’s Biggest Black newspaper, The New Nation. There he built up a bit of a reputation for his straight-talking stance, knowledge of and passion for all flavours of inspirational music – from RnB and Reggae to Hip Hop, Soul and House. The man had quite a bit of a following too…
Tony is also well known for his trademark inspirational concert promotions and events – people know that they won’t be short changed and that he will never fail to deliver to his listeners – whether presenting, DJ-ing or mixing. Unafraid to try his hand at most things, Tony even lists a foray into the world of acting amongst his achievements, having appeared in the BBC Programme, Hidden History: The Life of Harold Moody. It was his first acting role and it came as a bit of surprise when he landed the lead role of the man himself.
When he is not doing any of the above you’ll find Tony enjoying an Arsenal game, watching MMA Boxing or tying to improve his handicap in a game of golf.
