Deep into Soul @ POW Brixton, 8th April 2017
Deep into Soul are a London House Music Collective, all about fun vibes, true passion and above all, uplifting, soulful Gospel House with a dash of Disco or Tech. They attract a cool, friendly and very loyal grown-up crowd.
The latest event was their 6th Birthday Celebration at POW Brixton. They have consistently treated their supporters to established national DJ Producers such as Paul ‘Trouble’ Anderson, Phil Asher, Grant Nelson, AtJazz, Sy Sez, Groove Assassin, Sean McCabe, Kev Beadle, Shaun Ashby, DJ Fiddla, Martin Lodge and HanLei as well as top class international DJs and PA’s including The Basement Boys (Terry Douglas and DJ Spen) with Jasper Street Company, Terry Hunter, Spinna, Tony Humphries, Karizma, Joey Negro, Rich Medina, Souldynamic, John Morales and Fish Go Deep.
Resident DJs are a varied rotation of UK house music producers Rhemi (Neil Pierce and Ziggy Funk) with David Bailey, Shaun Ashby and DJ Fiddla who play a staple diet of rare grooves that are usually a mix of house, disco and deep soul.
Birthday events are an extra reason to celebrate and the team didn’t let us down. On the line-up (in set order) were, David Bailey, Neil Pierce, Ziggy Funk, Phil Asher, Afro naught and influential USA DJ Danny Krivit (NYC). DJ David Bailey gave us some uplifting vocal hard house beats. Neil Pierce started his set with some vocal classic house tracks. Ziggy played some Afro beats mixed with classic house including Carlos Francisco – Can You Feel It. In the other room, Phil Asher took us back to 1980s New York with sounds from D Train – You’re The One for Me, Hip-Hop gems from A Tribe Called Quest and Grandmaster Flash – The Message. Afronaught gave us some footwork jazz breaks with soulful house samples mixed in.
By the time, Danny Krivit blessed us with his set, the room was packed. He turned up the energy and the dance floor was electric with classic disco and house tracks, which were full of deep soulful female vocals including Patrice Rushen – Haven’t You Heard, a luxurious remix of Angie Stone – Wish I Didn’t Miss You, Loleatta Holloway – Can’t Let You Go and Roy Ayers – Running Away. His set also embraced some afro beats mixed with classic house then finished his vibrant set with the uplifting gospel house track by 3 Winans Brothers featuring Karen Clark Sheard – I Choose You (Louie Vega Remix). The air was full of high energy, laughter and fun, all of the elements that make a great club night.
Deep into Soul events are usually from spring to autumn, with indoor parties during colder months and then held on the spacious two floor outdoor balcony terrace in the summer, warmer months.
In 2017, as well as their own Deep into Soul events, they can be found bringing their soulful flavour to other events such hosting the Southport Festival Weekender London After-party at POW Brixton on 10th June 2017 with line-up including Tony Humphries and DJ Spen.
Summer, outdoor parties, sunshine vibes plus top house music are the ethos of Deep into Soul so it will be interesting to see what else this year’s seasonal events will bring.
