'It felt right to invite these two women to be guests on the show - to represent two different generations - the future and yesteryear to share their journeys within the domain of the music underground of London.' Marcia Carr
In celebration of International Women’s Day 2017, Marcia Carr featured two industry insider’s whose vision is seemingly connected although they work in different fields. Shy One (DV8) and Auntie Maureen (#iamDJ) tell their stories about their timeline journeys.
Shy One represents the rise of a new generation of talented DJ-into-producer from the UK – a woman getting on with the business of making music – which she has been doing since 2003 – as a DJ who spun as part of a collective, making moves in Grime. Progressing as a studio producer, Shy One has a distinctive sound that maintains her signature lo-fi punch and quirky synths of grime yet explores her funkier instincts through house rhythms, broken beat and varied tempos. Tracks such as ‘Bedknobs and Boomkicks’, ‘Black Beat’ are among other tracks featured on a number of label compilations, with appearances on Boiler Room TV, Worldwide FM and her own show on Radar radio has generated a strong interest for her, that is futile to ignore.
