This lovely lady is no stranger to the Mi-Soul family. Having since released a track with Brian Power called ‘So Long Gone’, heavily supported by on air, we thought we would ask Rebecca to share a little about her life and soul with us…
I am mad about music, performing, producing, DJing; communicating with music in all formats! I also love table tennis, being in the water, hugging, cooking, dancing, laughing, comedy, thriller and action films, hanging with friends, meeting new people, introducing new people, travelling and exploring cultures all quench my thirst to learn! Lastly, opening peoples eyes to the brighter side of life.
What’s Your Favourite Thing To Do When You’re Not Working?
“I work out!” I love to dance and keep fit! I love massage and always need one!
Love to watch films and eat in good restaurants or cook at home. I must say I love food! But healthy food with taste otherwise I end up feeling yukkety yuk yuk… i.e. spicy chicken or marinated fish with vegetables!
Also I love spending time outside in the great outdoors even if it is running down the canal!
What Piece Of Advice Would You Give Your Young Self Now?
Go on a spiritual holiday, Go to a cheese fondue party! Enjoy your life now!
When And How Did Your Love For Soulful Music Begin?
When my body moved without my mind. I discovered funk’n’soul at university properly in 2001. I was living with musicians who used to take me to all these live funk nights, slappin’ the bass all over the place, and then I discovered disco/funk/soul house music and we would go to a night in Manchester called Venus @ Club V – the music was sweet! All the old skool 70s house edits.
BOOM! I was in LOVE!
Name Your Favourite Top Three Tracks Of All Time…
I’ve got a song that will get on ya nerves, get on ya nerves..only joking
Falling in Love – Surface
Wonderful Person – Black Masses/ You are you are/ Linda Clifford
Womans Work – Maxwell
What Musical Artist Inspires You And Why?
Maxwell because the way he carries his voice from one register to the next and also the emotion expressed!
Which Mi-Soul Show Do You Enjoy The Most And Why?
Thats a mean question as every show has a place for my mood but if I have to answer I am torn between All things House with Brian Power, Mi-Lunch with Deadly Smedley & Tosca. To be fair all the shows play some heavy music which catch my attention!
Brian Power plays killer tracks one after the other which I wiggle my bum to in bed! Tosca has dropped some serious funk tracks I have gone nuts over surprised me!
I can’t control my body when possessed by the funk and soul it gives my mind a rest when I am in the ‘flow’. Oh but then there is Ronnie, Femi, Craig, Dr Psycho, Paul Trouble.. There are no favourites I LOVE THEM ALL!
What Was The Last Gig You Went To?
I went to Mary J and Maxwell – I love Maxwell not because of his good looks but because his innocence and the purity in his voice, it is enchanting. Mary J was empowering and I admire her strength. Her songs are catchy and we can all sing the words and share her passion!
What Artist Would You Like To See Live And Why?
I would like to see Aretha Franklin because she is the queen of soul and being inside her aura and vibration would empower and inspire me. You can’t beat that feeling of embracing the soul of a great! Also The Emotions are gigging this December – so who knows, maybe this is my calling to return to the states. Would have loved to have seen Marvin, Dusty maybe I’ll dust off my Time Machine!
What Tune Can You Not Get Enough Of Right Now?
I really like that new tune Cranes in the Sky by Solange as a ‘background at home’ tune. I love the diversity of her voice and she has a unique emotive quality but I also seem to be nuts over Mandy – I Just Can’t Wait – the cool and breezy jazz version, although Miss Smiths voice works sweetly on the original. Lastly, Brian Power just brought out a tune with Roachford, Ain’t No Sunshine – what a banger!
