Each week Lindsay Wesker will be talking about the video that has caught his attention and giving his views for your entertainment. This week he takes a look at London Hip Hip from back in the day. This week’s video is NOT new! In fact it’s old, more than 20 years old, but it still sounds as relevant and vibrant as ever! Following the NWA/Public Enemy explosion, Britain began to generate its own hip hop stars: Derek B, Monie Love, The Cookie Crew, Blak Twang, MC Mello and Hardrock Soul Movement (featuring Mi-Soul’s very own Dave VJ.) The track ‘How’s Life In London?’ was so perfect for 1993! Kiss FM and Choice FM were still pumping out great black music 24/7 and the UK was about to become the most creative place in the world: who else could create rave, drum & bass, jungle and UK garage? Suddenly, the UK was the epicentre of polyrhythmic madness with its own dance moves and fashion, and the London Posse were right there at the start, kicking it off in fine style, rapping in London accents about the things that they observed. I saw London Posse member Rodney P recently and paid my respects. It’s difficult creating timeless music but them boys did, and all grime videos still look like this!
