I Choose You 3 Winans Brothers, Karen Clarke Sheard and Louie Vega

The 3 Winans Brothers – Carvin, Marvin and BeBe – came together as a supergroup in 2013. Formed as another combination from members of the famed Winans family, much of the gospel music they’ve released is often accompanied by a remix to get the juices flowing. ‘I Choose You’ originally featured as a straight soul track on the album Foreign Land but Louie Vega saw something in the song that made him turn his hand to it. The Brothers’ smooth harmonies still take centre stage and they’re joined by vocalist Karen Clarke Sheard who adds the variety a remix requires.

We've Had Enough Rhemi featuring Shezar

The London production duo Rhemi – who have featured on these pages before – are back with another banger. ‘We’ve Had Enough’ featuring the brilliant Shezar is a throwback to the disco and soul that came out of the 90s. It’s based on repetition: the constantly twanging bassline, the drums that seem like they’ll never stop beating and the background vocal refrain belted out over the euphoric chorus. Ironically for a song called ‘We’ve Had Enough’, this track threatens to go on and on for as long as we want it to. It’s an ode to the dance floor steppers who never want the night to end.

Urban Sound Lab 'Matter of Time'

Bouncing around on top of cumulus clouds. Drifting down to earth on the wind’s tide. Or just floating around nebulously without worrying too much about anything. If you put on ‘Matter of Time’ by Urban Sound Lab you’ll see what I mean. ‘The sky is gently falling’ sings Selina Campbell which I suppose in itself this isn’t such a reassuring thought. But she does it so soothingly and gracefully that you don’t think it really matters. When taken at face value the lyrics of this song are downbeat and depressing. But the music behind the words saves us from sadness. Maybe there’s a metaphor there.
